If the outdoors is your thing the Silver Coast has miles of sandy beaches and incredible surf; rolling green countryside and picturesque villages; the rugged slopes of Montejunto; the calm of valleys in which vineyards are spread beneath a gorgeous blue sky and man-made wonders like Buddha Eden.

Don’t expect to find anyone out before ten in the evening, and don’t expect to get home before midnight if you want to experience the Silver Coast as the locals do. It is not just the bars that open late. Throughout the year there are festivals and feasts in towns and villages all around the Silver Coast region, and these invariably start late and go on well into the early morning. For entertainment the Silver Coast has a vibrant and dynamic arts scene: theatre, dance, music, exhibitions and regular events in which art takes to the streets.

As for shopping, here it is best experienced in the local markets – and there are many of them. Every town has a general market every week, a lively and colourful affair that has to be experienced at least once.

There are also daily food markets offering the freshest of produce: fish hauled from the ocean and landed at nearby Peniche; and fruit and vegetables that still carry the dew from the fields in which they were picked that morning.
